Each year, cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac arrest claim the lives of 325,000 Americans before they reach a hospital.

Almost 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member. Currently the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims is approximately 6.4 percent.

If a cardiac arrest happened to your loved one or a close friend, would you know how to perform life-saving CPR, which can double a victim’s chance of survival? Surprisingly, the vast majority of Americans don’t. That’s why College Park Fire Rescue and the American Heart Association have partnered together to distribute the Family & Friends CPR Anytime Personal Learning Kits to our community, to bring CPR training into the homes of families everywhere.

The Family & Friends CPR Anytime Personal Learning Program allows families, friends and the general public – those who most likely would never attend a traditional CPR course – to learn the core skills of CPR in just 32 minutes using their own personal kit. The kit contains everything needed to learn basic CPR, and skills can be learned anywhere, from the comfort of a family home to a large community group setting.
