an ISO Rating of 3!

College Park, GA/Nov. 4, 2009 - The City of College Park has received a ratings upgrade from the Insurance Service Office (ISO) based on the evaluation of its Fire Rescue Department. On ISO's ten point scale, with 1 being the best and 10 being the worst, the Department's rating has improved from a 4 to a 3.
"What a great benefit to the citizens of College Park," said Mayor Jack Longino. "We believe this upgrade will result in lower premiums for homeowners and other insured in College Park."
The College Park Fire Department was evaluated by ISO in August 2009, with evaluations in three categories: Communications (10%), Water system (40%), and the Fire Department (50%). Additionally, the ISO inspects everything from the number of firefighters on staff to the location of its fire hydrants.
"This is the first time in the City's history that it has received such an excellent rating", said Interim Fire Chief Wade Elmore. "We've added [essential apparatus and staff] to College Park Fire Rescue. We developed a good strategy for fire suppression and protection. The ratings agency recognized this and judged us accordingly."
ISO is the leading supplier of statistical, underwriting, and actuarial information to the property/casualty insurance industry and is used by most insurers to calculate the premiums for residential, commercial and industrial subscribers.
This latest accolade places the City of College Park in elite company. Of the 1,145 Fire Departments in the State of Georgia, only 56 have a class 3 rating or better. Nationwide, the city of College Park lands in the top 5 percent.
"It's a tribute to the great men and women of College Park Fire Rescue," said College Park City Manager William E. Johnson, III. "The Mayor and Council established these polices, which afford us a first-rate Public Safety Division, and the Fire Department is a key member."
Property and business owners should contact their insurance companies for specific information and report the upcoming City of College Park Fire Department's ISO rating change to their agent.
ISO evaluates each community using criteria as defined in nationally recognized standards developed by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Waterworks Association. Many fire insurance underwriters use the 10-point scale as a major component when determining the insurance premium paid by policyholders.
College Park Fire Rescue acquired additional apparatus over the past calendar year. "We've purchased a ladder truck, a fire engine and an air light/service truck, all during these tough economics times. Our department has worked with the Public Works and Communication Departments to reach this goal," said Interim Chief Elmore.
CPFR responds from two fire stations located on Sullivan Road and College Street, and is certified by the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council as well as the Georgia Department of Human Resources-Emergency Health Section. Elmore stated, "I am extremely proud that we can provide the City of College Park residents with a premier fire department."
Based on the survey, the class rating will become effective February 1, 2010. For any additional information about the Insurance Service Office, visit www.iso.com.
CPR
anytime kits still available

Each year, cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac arrest claim the lives
of 325,000 Americans before they reach a hospital.
Almost 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a
family member. Currently the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims is
approximately 6.4 percent.
If a cardiac arrest happened to your loved one or a close friend, would you
know how to perform life-saving CPR, which can double a victim’s chance of
survival? Surprisingly, the vast majority of Americans don’t. That’s why
College Park Fire Rescue and the American Heart Association have partnered
together to distribute the Family & Friends CPR Anytime Personal Learning
Kits to our community, to bring CPR training into the homes of families
everywhere.
The Family & Friends CPR Anytime Personal Learning Program allows families,
friends and the general public – those who most likely would never attend a
traditional CPR course – to learn the core skills of CPR in just 32 minutes
using their own personal kit. The kit contains everything needed to learn
basic CPR, and skills can be learned anywhere, from the comfort of a family
home to a large community group setting.
